Key Collection Day
From the number of BTOs to condos being built these few years, you can imagine how many excited couples and families that will be collecting their keys to their new house.
There are various beliefs pertaining to this joyous occasion. But from some clients and friends I spoke with, there are also equal number of mix ideas and confusion to what is important.
As such, I have pen down the below to let readers to gain a better understanding of your big day.
Key collection to your home - What should you know?
Q1. I need to select good day for key collection!
This is understandable. After all, it is the first day you are ‘seeing’ your house thus the belief. But if you think about it, actually workers have been going in and out of your unit to touch up and repair any defects that there might be before your key collection. So if anything, the workers would have been to your house for the first time really.
If I were to give another light-hearted analogy, this is akin to you meeting your gf for the first date or the day you two got together. Imagine during the intense moment of your paktor-ing, you know that this is the moment to hold her hand as your gf awaits… And just as you were about to hold her hand…… you stopped. Thinking if this was a good day and time to start off on the relationship to ensure you two would be together happy ever after. If I don’t start off on a good day, would we still be together??...
By now you would have known, it was an attempt to explain why date selection is not needed for key collection day.
Date selection is only needed for two days – renovation and move in day. The former for a smooth renovation and avoiding hic-ups and issue caused during this period. The latter is to ensure after a smooth move in and good luck for occupants.
Q2. Okie, so the least I should still roll the pineapple, right?
Truth be told, the rolling of pineapple is more of a symbolic and custom.
If you think about classical Fengshui, the practice is based on energy/qi in the form of time and landform to put it simply. As such, rolling of the pineapple or preparing huat kway (彂糕) and fruits is actually a custom belief which cannot change the energy and luck in your house.
Q3. For a peace of mind - List of items you need
Nevertheless, I have listed down things you can prepare on the first visit to your new house. You may wish to follow the below:
1. 1 x Pineapple
2. 8 x apples
3. 8 x oranges
4. 1 bunch of bananas

7. 8 x $1 coin in a red packet
8. Sea salt

Q4. How to do it?
1. Pineapple for roll in into your house by owner upon opening of main door.
